Today was a great success and the children enjoyed it immensely. We began the day with a well planned assembly completely organised and led by our e-safety officers for this year, Ellie, Amber and Julian. All the children impressed with their knowledge of how they can stay safe whilst using the internet. You have all been listening closely during learning time!
We then split into separate classes where each teacher had planned appropriate activities. Oak class had a quiz to test their knowledge and developed Power Points in groups. Chestnut made posters and did some research using the laptops. Willow watched some of the adventures of Winston, Cara and the SMART crew and discussed who they can talk to if worried about anything on the internet.
Safer Internet Day
Safer Internet Day 2016 will be celebrated globally on Tuesday 9th February with the slogan ‘Play your part for a better internet’. Once again, we shall be supporting this in school with a days activities completely themed around keeping safe online.
Coordinated in the UK by the UK Safer Internet Centre the celebration sees hundreds of organisations get involved to help promote the safe, responsible and positive use of digital technology for children and young people.
The UK Safer Internet Centre – a partnership of three leading charities; Childnet, the South West Grid for Learning and the Internet Watch Foundation – provide resources for children, schools and families, and tools for getting involved at www.saferinternet.org.uk.
Globally, Safer Internet Day is celebrated in over a hundred countries, coordinated by the joint Insafe/INHOPE network, with the support of the European Commission, and national Safer Internet Centres across Europe.
The day offers the opportunity to highlight positive uses of technology and to explore the role we all play in helping to create a better and safer online community. It calls upon young people, parents, carers, teachers, social workers, law enforcement, companies, policymakers, and wider, to join together in helping to create a better internet. Get involved to play your part!
Below you will find Lee and Kim's 'Animal Magic' video from CEOP (The Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre) to share with your children about keeping safe whilst on the internet.

We are joining hundreds of other organisations across the UK in celebrating Safer Internet Day to promote the safe and responsible use of technology.
To celebrate the day, children will be taking part in many different activities, all based around keeping safe online.
Safer Internet Day 2015 is on Tuesday 10th February 2015, with the theme ‘Let’s create a better internet together’, offering the opportunity to focus on both the creative and positive things that children and young people are doing online, as well as the role that we all play in helping to create a better internet.
