Happy New Year!
We have got a new term and some more exciting learning awaiting us this term. The children have already made a start with their topic about Australia and local explorer and the first person credited for circumnavigating Australia..... Matthew Flinders. If you would like to help your child with this learning please research what you can about Matthew Flinders and what he did. In addition we will be using maps to name continents and oceans so if you can support them with this it would be greatly appreciated. By Easter we will be comparing a part of Australia to our local area so if you have time to discuss climate and the physical (natural) and human geography of both our area and Australia then this will support them with their learning.
We will be also looking at Multiplication and Division this term and it would be beneficial for your child to be practise their counting in 2's, 5's, 10's to ensure that they can do this fluently. We use a times tables song to help them with the learning of the tables and this is in the homework tab at the bottom of this page. This will support your child with learning their 2's, 5's and 10 times tables which they are expected to know by the end of Year 2. If you look at the bottom of this page you will find a Homework and Games tab and this will have the link to TTRockstars that your child can practice with their log in found in the front of their Reading Record Book. There will also be a link to Hit the Button, this game is great for securing Maths facts like single times tables, number bonds and doubling and halving. If your child works on this then they will be supported with their learning quick recall of facts.
Your child will also be looking at Life Journeys and how different religions and cultures celebrate the birth of a baby. This could include you explaining to your child what celebrations you had when they were born. They will be looking at how these celebrations introduce them into a wider community of people. It would be helpful for your child to understand why these celebrations and belonging to a wider community are important.
In Science will be looking at Feeding and Exercise and how to be healthy. If you have any opportunities to do some cooking at home and discussing what goes into the food your child eats then this will help your child to understand good food choices. We will also be looking at how you have to exercise as well as eat the right things and when to have a 'treat'. We are all allowed a 'treat' such as a piece of cake but we will be learning that it would not be a good food choice to just eat cake for every meal.
Keep a look out on this page for some of our successes and check out the Homework Tab to help you support your child further.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
