There is another busy term ahead of us in Chestnut Class. We have many exciting things to look forward to in the coming term.
The children have been very excited about going swimming this term, it begins on Wednesday 8th January. The children will be expected to have long hair tied back and earrings removed.
We are going to be looking at Australia and the achievements of Matthew Flinders in our Topic this term. The children are going to find out about a local explorer and his great achievements, then they will have a focus study on an area of Australia to compare it to the local area. Science this term is going to involve looking at Living Things and Habitats. This should get the children observing habitats as well as discussing living things and how they know something has lived.
Homework for this term is going to be focused on timestables and comprehensions as well as reading regularly and learning spellings. This is to support the children with learning their timestables and their quiz on it every week. The comprehension will support your child with answering questions about a text.
Chestnut's Class Assembly is this term as well, on the 17th March at 9.00am. The children will be looking forward to sharing their learning with you and will be pleased to see you there.
The children have tried making a Roast Sweet Potato Salad. They prepared all of the ingredients in the salad and tried some new things. They were not too sure about the feta for a start but found it much nicer in the salad. The children also tried balsamic vinegar and extra virgin olive oil before adding it to their salad. Each child made their own salad using the ingredients prepared and enjoyed it. Sweet potato has been a big hit in Chestnut and we are going to be looking into tomatoes and other uses for them in the future.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
