Homework in Maple comes in many different forms and we encourage children to have a go at as much as they can. We ask that you use the Home School Record books for showing when reading, spelling and times tables has been practised.

Below shows what homework your child will have each week:

Reading

Children have all got reading books from school which they take home every night. We love reading in Maple Class and would encourage your child to read a regularly as possible to support them with their speed of reading. If you child reads at home we ask that you make a note of this in their Home School Record Book. Your child is given Dojo points for showing that they have been reading at home. The reading Dojo points are as follows:

Spellings

All children are given spellings to practise in line with spelling expectations and their abilities. These are stuck into their Home School Record Book and we ask that your child practise these at home. These spellings link to what your child is looking at in spelling lessons in class. Unlike KS1 your child does not have a designated space in their Home School Record Book for writing their spellings down. Most children write their spellings once next to the words and then do extra at home on paper. The children are also given the opportunity to practise their spelling words as a set assignment on edshed.com with each child having their login for this in the front of their Home School Record Book. Children are checked on their knowledge of their spellings each week and are monitored in all writing to check that your child has learned and remembered their spellings. You can make a note in the Home School Record Book to show spellings have been practised. 

Times Tables

All children are learning their times tables and this is to support them in their learning as they move through the school. Children in Year 4 are expected to know all the times tables from 1x1 to 12x12 and able to answer them quickly for the Year 4 Multiplication Check. To support the learning in school we ask that your child has the opportunity to practise their times tables at home as often as they can. They can use the times tables videos found under the Multiplication tab on our class page or by playing games on Times Tables Rockstars. We can see who practises regularly as they are super speedy with their times tables. Logins for Times Tables Rockstars are at the front of the Home School Record Book.

Homework Folder

Your child has also got a homework folder which is given out on a Wednesday and should be returned by the following Wednesday morning. This will alternate between a maths sheet and a reading comprehension and the adults in school will feedback on anything your child does not quite understand. We ask that if you have helped your child with any of this homework that you just leave a mark next to the question or at the top of the page so the adults in school are aware and can support your child further. If there is something your child is not sure of they are also able to leave that question blank as the adults in school will go through the question and how to work it out.
