At Clough and Risegate Primary it is our aim that each child leaves us with a love of words. We aim to develop children who can speak fluently, read for enjoyment and meaning and can write in any genre; be it a letter of complaint or a beautiful poem. All of this stems from a love of words and understanding their meaning.
Speaking and Listening is not a stand alone subject within our curriculum but is a foundation to learning, as such opportunities are made for talk and listening to each other throughout subjects in all classes. This ranges from Show and Tell in Willow, to making presentations and talking to the school as an Eco-Warrior or JOSO. These skills vital for a child's development and support them on their learning journey.
With vocabulary being a foundation of our curriculum it is key for children to have the skills to listen and share but also the ability to use the correct vocabulary for the subject they are working in. Below is a progression document for speaking and listening.
