Hello and Welcome to a new school year in Chestnut Class.
We are very lucky to be working with Willow class as a Key Stage 1 Base. Our learning for this term is going to be exciting.
The children have already made a start learning about Maps and Aerial Photographs. They will be working towards making a map of their own called Barefoot Island. This will involve looking at what people need for a settlement and how these appear on a map. The children will also be looking and the Human (Man Made) Geography and the Physical (Natural) Geography for the school grounds and surrounding area.
The children have made a super start with their Maths learning all about Number and Place Value. Being able to count on and back but also say what makes up a number is very important as a foundation for your child's learning. Please help your child to count forwards and backwards to 100 where you can. It will help them with their Place Value work but also with the Addition and Subtraction work that is to follow.
Science is all about Animals and their Habitats this term. This is a great chance to go out for a walk and see what you can see and discuss with your child about why animals choose to live where they do and how this supports them by providing them food, shelter and water. I know this is a topic the children are going to really enjoy.
We will also be observing some significant events that are coming up this term. We have Bonfire night and the children are going to find out about why we celebrate this and why it is significant. There is also Remembrance Sunday coming up and we will be looking at what happened and why it is important to remember those that have fallen in war.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
