Please help your child by sharing books with them and hearing them read at home. This is a really important part of your child's education and any extra time to help them consolidate their learning is beneficial to them. Discussion about the story is an important part of sharing a book as well. Making simple predictions and talking about the characters together helps to build children's comprehension skills rather than decoding alone.
Each time your child shares a story with you please note it in their Jungle Reading Record. Every time this is done, children are awarded DOJO points, which in turn increase their chances of being top scorers at the end of the week and winning prizes!
Spelling and Spelling Books
Please help your child with their spellings in their spelling books each week. Every week your child will be taking home a list of spellings to learn, some of these will be based on their spelling focus for the week and some of them will be based on the Common Exception Words. It would really help your child if you could ensure that they try to use the Look, Cover, Say, Write and Check method for learning and writing their spellings each week. This is getting the child to look at the word, cover it, say what the word is, write it down and then check it. Please get your child to say the word so that they know what the word is ready for their weekly spelling check.
Each time your child practises their spellings at home and show their book at school, they receive Spelling DOJO points. These points will help them to earn lots of DOJOs and turn them into DOJO Shop prizes.
As per the school policy, please remember that children should only be bringing in water for hydration throughout the day. This should be in a clearly named bottle. These will live at the back of the class and will be accessible during the day. We always ensure that children are encouraged to drink plenty throughout the day. Water bottles are topped up for the children when needed.
Year 2 children have still got Tapestry accounts and this is a good way of sharing what your child has been up to with their class teacher. This does help when making judgements about your child at the end of Key Stage 1 as well as sharing their progress and successes at home and at school.
PE this term for Chestnut Class will be on a Tuesday afternoon led by our very own Mrs Hazlehurst and Mr Gillett. PE kits need to include joggers and jumpers as we aim to get children outside as often as possible for these sessions. Please help your child on this day by removing any earrings if they wear them and making sure that if they have long hair that this is tied back. You can choose to send your child to school in their PE kit or they can bring them in so the PE kit can live on your child's peg. Thank you.
