Art
We have begun our Art this term by exploring how prints work. We have experimented with various types of prints and discussed how the different levels of materials make a pattern.
Counting in 2s
We have had a busy Maths lesson today by looking at counting objects in twos. The children were able to notice the pattern and practise this skill further by hanging socks on washing lines and taking part in relay races.
Australia Day
As part of our Geography topic, today we celebrated Australia Day! The children have had an excellent day learning all about Australia. We loved speaking to Louise, who is a lady who has lived there, and learning all about life there.
We learnt about the Australian boomerangs and how Indigenous people used them where we then went outside to practice our hunting skills! The children were fantastic at this. We also made rain shakers and learnt about their beliefs in using these to get rain. Finally, we decorated our work with Aboriginal Art and learnt about it's links to Australia.
Breakfast Club Workshop
We have been learning all about where our food comes today with the Breakfast Club Workshop. We have looked at where different meat comes from, some of the grown crops and what happens to crops when they are harvested to produce some of our yummy cereal! The children were able to take part in many hands-on experiences, from making pancakes and learning about different eggs to finding out about where pork comes from.
Suitable Materials
As part of our learning in Science, the children were asked to bring in their own toy. From this, we explored our previous learning on the properties of materials and discussed how some materials were more suitable than others for different purposes. Today, we looked at creating a soft toy for a baby and posed the question 'Which materials are suitable for a babies soft toy?'. There was some interesting discussions about the use of hard plastic being unsuitable for babies.
D&T
We have been testing different structures today in readiness for making our own chairs for a teddy bear. The children found that by adding more materials to their shapes they became stronger and were able to hold heavier objects.
Chinese New Year
Today, we have been learning about Chinese New Year. The children explored different elements of this culture and how they may be different, but very exciting, to our own celebrations.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
