Chestnut Class have shown an excellent understanding of our History learning today and can now explain who the famous explorer Christopher Columbus is. In addition to this, they have worked well on developing their painting skills and this has been well reflected in their fantastic boats!
D&T - Farm-to-Fork
We have been learning about the difference between fruit and vegetables today. After harvesting some of our homegrown items, we were able to tell the difference between them by investigating whether they had seeds or not.
Yum! A tasty lesson today using our learning on fruit and vegetables to make two tasty soups. A delicious parsnip and onion soup and a tasty butternut squash and onion soup. The children developed a great claw and bridge grip when chopping the items. After our big taste test, the children seemed to prefer the butternut squash. We hope you got to try some of the tasty samples sent home.
Maths
A busy number day today. Here the children are expanding their understanding of the value of numbers by using a place value chart. What a fantastic job they did too!
PSHE
Today, we had a special visitor come into class and she taught us all about recognising different emotions and how to deal with them. We showcased our learning by drawing pictures that represented different things/occasions that may make us feel these different emotions and also practiced some breathing techniques to help us when we may feel anxious, worried or angry.
D&T - Farm-to-Fork
The time has come for us to take part in our termly whole-school cooking challenge. The children had great fun taking the seeds out of the pumpkin and preparing the delicious Pumpkin Pie. The class have demonstrated a variety of skills today by reading the instructions, preparing the pumpkins, weighing out the ingredients and fantastic teamworking.
Computing - VR Day
An amazing day has been had by all! We have learnt about technology in our lives by exploring the VR headsets in school. The children were amazed when exploring Space and learning about the famous Neil Armstrong.
Instructions
We have been learning all about bossy verbs and sentences today. The children excelled in this activity - although they were very commanding with their instructions on how to make the pastry tartlet.. A super job Chestnut Class. I look forward to the written product.
Science - Creepy Crawlies
As part of our Science Topic (Animals) we had some special visitors in class today. After learning all about the different classes of animals, the children had a great time looking after the Giant Cockroaches and were able to explain that they weren't a mammal, amphibian, fish or duck, but in fact an insect.
Lincolnshire Wildlife Park
What better way to start the term than with a school trip? We have had a fantastic time at Lincolnshire Wildlife Park where we have seen lots of new and exciting animals and even got the chance to feed the birds ourselves. Some even landed on us! As we went around the park, we extended our learning on the types of animals and their diets. The children displayed their excellent knowledge of carnivores, herbivores and omnivores to the Zoo Keeper.
D&T
We have started our D&T topic by learning all about wheels, axels and axel holders. The children have learnt about how wheels move and were able to display their knowledge by making their own model where the wheels are attached to an axel, axel holder and car frame. Well done Chestnut Class!
