Through the History Curriculum at Clough & Risegate, we strive to inspire a curiosity of the past by learning about different historical periods within and beyond living memory, while looking at the local, national and international impact of these periods. In Key Stage 2, the children also get the opportunity to learn about civilisations outside of Europe such as the Ancient Egyptians.
We aim to do this through a series of carefully selected and planned topics which support the National Curriculum coverage for History. In the Early Years the children are learning about the past, while the older children begin to look at sources, artefacts and common threads such as innovation, consequence and monarchy to name a few that run throughout the periods studied. Through these we aim for the children to develop their knowledge of History and chronology, whilst also giving the children the vocabulary and skills to talk like a historian about the periods they study.
We aim for all children to experience an enrichment opportunity throughout the school year based on their topic, to further their learning and enjoyment of the subject.
