The children have all started to settle in well into Maple Class and are enjoying their learning.
Across the Autumn Term we will be learning about many things in different subjects. The highlights of our learning can be found below.
PE in Maple is on a Tuesday morning being lead by Mr Padley, who is a PE Specialist. This is very exciting and we ask that all PE kits are in school for Tuesdays with long hair being tired back and earrings removed if your child is unable to remove them for themselves. Mr Padley is supported by Mrs Fensom and everybody has enjoyed their learning so far.
As the weather becomes more changeable please ensure that your child's PE kit has got both trainers and plimsols as well as joggers and shorts and a jacket to be prepared for indoor or outdoor PE lessons.
Year 3 are very excited to be taking part in swimming lessons until Christmas. Please ensure that if your child is in Year 3 that they have their swimming kits on a Thursday and bring a jumper for when they have finished swimming.
If you would like to send a snack for your child to eat on their return to school after swimming please put this inside their lunchbox or in their book bag.
Writing in Maple this term is all about the fluency and getting children to write in a joined style automatically. The children will be using learning in spelling lessons, handwriting lessons to begin writing pieces for different purposes that are both entertaining and informative. There will be diary entries linked to the history topic about the Stone Age, poetry linked to the seasons and harvest and informative pieces as well.
Maths in Maple is all about understanding place value of numbers this term, as well as being able to apply this knowledge to addition and subtraction, becoming more confident with column addition and subtraction. The children will also be developing their understanding of multiplication and division. In Maple we promote the deeper understanding of how children know that they have got the right answer through reasoning and problem solving so we promote the child being able to show their working out, and talk about the journey to get to the answer.
Science in Maple this term is looking at the changes of states from solids to liquids and gasses. The children will be finding out about how some change from solids to liquids and gasses through heating and how gasses and liquids can become solid through cooling.
Our history topic for the term is looking at the changes from The Stone Age to the Iron Age. The children will be learning about the significant changes giving name to these prehistoric time periods and how historians have drawn conclusions about these time periods given the archaeological evidence.
The geography learning in this term will be about settlements and comparing them to see if all settlements are the same. The children will be learning to use maps and aerial footage to compare settlements locally and abroad, they will be finding out about different land use, the human and physical features of the area and identify features on maps.
The children have started learning French and are learning how to introduce themselves and answer simple questions in French. They will also be developing their spoken and written sentences to talk about days of the week and school related items.
